Segovia

Segovia is one of the historical cities in Spain which is situated about 65 km northern part of Madrid, it takes about half an hour by train from Madrid. Segovia city consists of varieties of religious as well as civil architectures from different religion such as Catholic and Jews.

Most of the historical, cultural and religious places are preserved by UNESCO. Segovia is also one of the historical place which was listed in the UNESCO's World Heritage site in 1985 due to the amazing historical buildings. Most of the religious as well as civil architectures reflect the typical spanish cultures of different religious groups in Spain.

The historical Corpus church and synagogue clearly show the cultural diversities in Segovia. Segovia city is surrounded by various historical monuments which come under the World Heritage site such as:

  1. Aqueduct of Segovia: this is one of the most important and well-preserved monument which was constructed during the Roman's period. This is the historical symbol of Segovia which was constructed at the end of first century or in the beginning of 2nd century. It is an example of roman engineering. There are more than 20,000 stone blocks which are joint without any mortar and it is 818 meters long, about 180 meter wide and 29 meters high that has become attractive destination for the visitors.
  2. Alcazar of Segovia: this royal palace is situated at the top of rocky hill which is surrounded by the rivers Eresma and Clamores near by Guadarrama mountains. It is one of the distinct royal palace in the hstory of Spain due to offbeat structure.
  3. Segovia Cathedral: It is one of the attractive Cathedral which was built in the 16th century with is situated in Madrid city near by the Plaza Mayor. It is one of the largest cathedral of Madrid which is known as the Lady of Cathedral and constructed between 1525 and 1577.
