Toledo

Toledo is one of the historical cities of Spain which is situated about 70 km south of Madrid and was the capital city of Spain before 1560. This city is known as the capital of Toledo region as well as the Castile-La Mancha's autonomous community that occupies 232.1 km2 of territories.

Toledo is full of natural, cultural and religious heritages. This is one of the famous cities with multiple cultures such as Christian, Muslim and Jewish. The historical arts and architectures remind the old history and culture of Spain. Due to the cultural diversity and monumental heritage, Toledo was listed in the UNESCO's World Heritage Site in 1986.It has given the birth to many famous artists and historical people such as Garcilaso de la, Al-Zarqali, Alfonso X, Eleanor of Toledo and so on.

The history of Toledo city begins from the Roman's regime. It was developed as the most important administrative and commercial city. Toledo was governed by different rulers in different period of time, they were Christians, Muslims and Jews. In the history of Toledo, there was the golden age during the Cordova regime and was recognized as cosmopolitan city due to the people from different cultures.

The current Toledo city is embraced by varieties of historical monuments such as Puerta del sol, Remains of roman circus, the Puerta de Bisagra, Santa Cruz Museum, historical swords and sounveniers which give the cultural reflections of Toledo.

Toledo is one of the attractive destinations for day trip. Most of the local as well as international visitors enjoy their weekend in this historical place which falls under UNESCO World Heritage site.

How to reach Toledo?

Visitors can reach Toledo either by bus or by train. There are many trains and buses from Madrid to Toledo.
