Temple of Debod is a historical Egyptian temple which is situated on the bank of Nile rives about 15 km southern part of Aswan in Egypt that came under Madrid in 1971 and renovated it.
The structure of temple reflects that it was constructed more than 2000 years ago as the honor of God Amon and Goddess Isis in the Debod's Nubian town. It was expanded by the Roman emperors later.
The exciting history of the temple discloses that it is an ancient Egyptian temple built about 2nd century. There was only single room in the beginning which was constructed by Tabriqo who was the king of Meroe to honor the God Amun. Gradually, it was extended during the regime of Ptolemy VI, Ptolemy VIII and Ptolemy XII who were the people from Ptolemic community. They gave the structure of a temple to the small room and it was decorated by the Roman emperors Tiberius and Augustus.
The Aswan Dam construction project in 1960, directly affected the several historical monuments and sites. But UNESCO announced to protect all the historical heritages due to which the Egyptian government handed over the Debod temple to the Spanish government in 1968. It was destroyed carefully between 1969 to 1970 and taken to Valencia by ship, then Madrid by train. It was rebuilt in the Parque del Oeste near by Royal Palace in Madrid and opened to the general public in 1971.
The temple of Debode was constructed by giving new structure that is first temple in the history of Madrid which was built by adding Egyptian art. Now, it is not the attraction of Egypt, it became the traditional attraction of Madrid.
