Reina Sofia is a national museum which is situated near by Atocha metro and Train stations in Madrid and was constructed between 1776 to 1781. This museum was inaugurated in 1992 by dedicating to the Spanish Queen Sofia.
It is situated as the Golden Triangle of Art due to wonderful arts and galleries. As it is a Spanish art museum, so it is famous for Spanish arts about 20th century.
The most famous persons Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso played vital role in the history of Reina Sofia Museum due to which they are called the greatest masters of 20th century. They collected various modern arts, and paintings for the attraction of museum during the 20th century. The paintings created by the Picasso have become the most attractive view for local we as well international visitors. Visitors can view Spanish arts in the museum which clearly reflects the Spanish history and culture. Most of the arts and paintings were collected by the local artists, but there are also some foreign artists such as Man Ray, Jacques Lipchitz, Robert Delaune, Richard Serra and so on who contributed to make Reina Sofia as a perfect art museum in Madrid.
This museum has a art library which can be used by the students free of cost. There are the collections of about 1000 videos, more than 3000 recordings and 100,000 books regarding arts and paintings. Most of the arts and paintings were collected from the old Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art( MEAC) and Catalan artists Joan Miro and Salvador Dali gave great contribution.
There was hospital in the central building of the museum in the 18th century which was renovated in 1980 and given the structure of a museum. The museum was opened to the general public in 1988 and it was declared as a national museum at the same time. The museum was expanded in 2005 and made 8 km2 that was designed by Jean Nouvel and it took the cost of 92 million Euro. After the expansion of the museum, it became easy to exhibit large number of collections that introduced Reina Sofia as one of the greatest modern art museums all over the world. Most of the permanent collections can be observed in the second floor of museum where visitors can feel the core features of Spanish arts and culture.
