Royal Botanic Garden was founded in the 18th century by king Ferdinand VI, occupying about 8 hectares of territories which is situated near by Prado museum in Madrid. It was developed as one of the important botany center with the purpose of discovering new plants and herbs in Madrid.
The independent war in 1808 directly affected the garden, most of the natural resources were destroyed during the war but it was restored by Mariano de la Paz Graells in in 1857. he briought new green houses and and renovated with new structure. He constructed zoo in the garden but later it was shifted to the Parque del Buen Retiro.
This beautiful garden faced heavy losses between the age of 1880-1890 due to destructive cyclone and construction of Ministry of Agriculture. About 564 trees were destroyed by the cyclone in 1981 and about 2 hectors of territories were used for the construction of Ministry of Agriculture in 1882. It has become dependent of National Research Council for Spain to research new plants and herbs and the Spanish government declared is as Artistic Garden in 1942.
Royal Botanic Garden is one of the most beautiful natural attractions in Madrid which is full of flora and fauna. This garden has been divided into two green houses and three most important outdoor sections with 1500 important trees, and about 30,000 plants and flowers in the present days.
All of the outdoor sections work for collections and exhibitions of rare herbs and plants in Madrid. These sections helps to preserve the natural resources in Madrid.
There are four rooms in that two greenhouses which helps to exhibit the rare herbs and plants. This greenhouse supports basically three climates-desert, tropical and temperate which is completely favorable to preserve various plants.
